Workshop: Dynamic Belaying & Falling

You lead climb outdoors independently but rarely push to your fall limit, and/or don't have much experience catching falls? Dynamic belaying is the art of “soft” belaying, without the fall becoming unnecessarily long. This means belaying a fall in such a way that the climber does not experience a hard impact against the rock, but instead a smooth, controlled, and well-cushioned fall.

We recommend combining this workshop with the Mental Training workshop—both take place on the same weekend. If you book both workshops, you will receive a 20% discount on one of them

What can I expect?

We will spend a full day (8 hours) at the crag with a group of 3–8 participants, showing you how to belay dynamically and gradually, systematically introduce you to the topic of falling. This workshop includes structured exercise progressions so that we can work towards positive falling experiences in a slow, safe, and non-overwhelming way. Dynamic belaying is an essential skill for every belayer in sport climbing. And only those who can rely on their partners to provide a soft, controlled catch will be able to climb up to—and beyond—their fall limit.

Course objective:
By the end of this course, you will have gained several positive falling experiences as well as positive moments while practicing dynamic belaying. From here, it’s about continuing to train consistently so that these skills truly become part of your comfort zone.
